This is page 56, 5th sentence: Although greatly respected by her politician friends, and a confidante of Edmund Burke, Mrs Crewe was dismissed by Lady Douglas as "very fat with a considerable quantity of visible down about her mouth...her ideas came so quick that ( Lady Douglas) could not follow them, nor she believed Mrs. Crewe herself". Lady Spencer had mixed feelings about the female members of the circle, but she loathed one woman in particular: Lady Melbourne.

This is a better exsept: On their return they stopped at Versailles to pay their respects to Louis XVI. Georgiana already had more than a passing acquaintance with Marie Antoinette, having met her during previous trips to France. On this visit a close friendship developed which lasted until the Queen's excution in 1973. They discpvered they had much in common, not only in having married a position rathr than a lover, but also in their relations with their mothers. Empress Marie Therese combined an intense, almost suffocating love for her children with a manipulative and dominating manner.

Thanks for that fun little diversion from my morning drudgery, Gina! I will try to get to that soon. I wish I could stop what I'm doing this morning and just continue reading this book I've picked up which is one of my favorites and sends me back in time.
Merci Madame,
Catherine

Hi Gina~

What fun, I’ve never been tagged. I'll try to do that soon. What a great book you did. Just saw the movie this weekend. Oh my goodness (or Goddess) the costumes were amazing! Kiera Knightley does the Duchess well!
